X-Wing Alliance Versions 1.0 - 2.02 RETAIL Version 15/6/99
This file is an ammendment to the Laxity releases for this game
The instructions are not complete and do not patch the launcher which enables you to switch pilots
> - Make a *full* HD installation of XWA from CD1.
> - Copy the complete directory "WAVE" from CD1 to your XWA root
> directory, e.g. "C:GAMESXWA".
> - Copy the complete "MOVIES" directory from CD1 to your XWA root
> directory. This will add some files to your XWA "MOVIES" dir.
> - Copy the file "DISK2.ID" from CD2 to your XWA root directory.
> - Copy all "BATTLE*.SMN" files from the "MOVIES" dir on CD2
> to your XWA "MOVIES" directory, e.g. "C:GAMESXWAMOVIES".
> - Install the v2.01 update.
> - Copy the supplied registry setup file "regsetup.exe" to your
> XWA root directory and execute it to adjust the game registry
> settings for No-CD playing.
> - Remove the read-only attribute from "XWINGALLIANCE.EXE" (if
> necessary).
> - Finally copy the crack file "XWA201CR.EXE" to your XWA root
> directory and execute the crack.
> - Execute "XWINGALLIANCE.EXE" to play the game.
>
> - Notice: This complete No-CD installation takes up ~900 megs of
> HD space. If you want to bring this down later, you can delete
> the big movie files from the "MOVIE" directory.
Did you really think that was all on CD2
ALSO
- Copy "Wavealetta" Directory into "%GAMEDIR%WAVE".
- Copy "WaveFrontendB*M*" directories to "%GAMEDIR%WAVEFRONTEND".
- Copy "WaveMissionVoiceB*M*" dirs to "%GAMEDIR%WAVEMISSIONVOICE".
- Run Supplied "X-WingLaunchCr.exe" in "%GAMEDIR%".
- Run "Regedit.exe" and edit keys

Inserting "%GAMEDIR%" as the root of the game installation e.g "C:GamesXWingAlliance".
Now the original icons will work (You can run Alliance.EXE) and you can switch pilots for those of you with friends.
This is the only patch I am aware of that *Fixes* Alliance.EXE.
Without copying additional files you will have no speech after Level 9 (i.e joining Rebellion).
